Methane is a potent greenhouse gas and major contributor to global warming. It forms 70-90% of natural gas, which is touted as an important energy transition fuel.  The ability to identify, manage, and repair leaking methane from energy infrastructure can reduce carbon tax penalties and increase the climate advantage of natural gas as a fuel of choice.  

Amidst the Government of Canada’s announcement to reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas sector by a minimum of 75% relative to 2012 levels by 2030, and the formulation of provincial regulations and goals, exemplified by Alberta's proposal to enforce a comparable reduction target of 75% to 80% by 2030 compared to 2014 levels, there has never been a more critical juncture for energy companies to effectively manage and reduce their emissions.
